BORA Lüftungstechnik GmbH, based in Raubling, Upper Bavaria, has been successfully developing and selling cooktop extraction systems since 2007. The innovative product lines BORA Professional, BORA Classic, BORA X Pure, BORA Pure and BORA Basic are sold in 60 countries worldwide.
The vision of BORA founder Willi Bruckbauer is the end of the cooker hood. The advantages of the patent he developed: the high-quality systems are more effective than conventional hoods, very quiet, energy-saving and easy to clean. They allow the kitchen architecture maximum planning freedom with a clear view. In 2009, the company already received its first award in the innovation competition “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”, followed by the German Founder Award, Red Dot Awards, Plus X Awards, German Design Awards, Iconic Awards, German Brand Award, Good Design Awards, iF Design Awards and others.
Within the scope of product development, BORA initially managed all requirements for internal departments and external suppliers in Excel sheets. Due to the constant growth of BORA, this did not allow a reliable overview from a certain point on.
In order to achieve the goal of standardization and reuse of requirements and to minimize the effort in data maintenance, BORA therefore considered the procurement of a professional requirements management solution in 2018.
The selection process
In the beginning, an external service provider was commissioned with the search, and later a separate in-house project team was installed to support the software selection. Based on a comprehensive catalog of criteria, the products Cradle 3SL, IBM Doors NG, Plato, Siemens Polarion, Woodpeker and ReqSuite were then subjected to a more detailed analysis.
After a comparative evaluation, ReqSuite® finally proved to be the best candidate in terms of functionality, scalability and price. In particular, the close and trustful exchange with the contact persons at OSSENO Software from the very beginning was also decisive for the selection.
Setup and rollout
The installation and rollout of ReqSuite® proved to be extremely simple. Together with BORA’s IT department, OSSENO had installed the software in the data center within minutes. In a two-day workshop on site in Niederndorf (Tyrol), the project team then received an introduction to the operation and administration of the tool by OSSENO. The individual processes and templates of BORA were also stored directly in the application, so that a tailor-made solution was directly available.
After the workshop, the use of ReqSuite® started in a first pilot project, which could prove the advantages after a short time and thus spoke for a comprehensive rollout of ReqSuite® at BORA.
Benefits and successes
Due to a continuous increase in in-house demand from various projects, ReqSuite® has become firmly established at BORA and is now mandatory for R&D as well as product management. At the beginning of 2020 ReqSuite® was rolled out company-wide and has been used in development projects as well as in the maintenance of norms and standards since then.
The central benefit of ReqSuite® has been the structuring of projects and the reuse of knowledge. Despite the continuing growth of the company, both aspects at BORA have been significantly and sustainably improved in recent years thanks to ReqSuite®, which is also reflected in the efficiency of coordination with suppliers. Especially in the data acquisition at the beginning of a project there are now extreme time savings compared to before.
BORA therefore considers the decision made for ReqSuite® to be absolutely right and sees OSSENO Software as an extremely reliable partner for the further development of its development processes also in the future. Especially through the continuous further development of ReqSuite® in quarterly releases, for which BORA always brings in new wishes and requirements, there are also further constant improvements for the own project work.
